Going to Kauai? Why not borrow a shelter dog while you're there?

If you're like us, you just plain love animals. We also think the Hawaiian island of Kauai is about as cool a place as we've found in our travels. So, if you’re planning a trip to Kauai, we have an idea to make your visit worlds of fun. Why not borrow a dog during your stay on Kauai?

You read right. Borrow. A dog.

While on Kauai, if you get homesick for your furry, four-footed friend that might be waiting for you back home, or if you’d like like a companion for a day, the Kauai Humane Society offers its Dog Field Trip program. You can stop by the Humane Society’s facility just west of Lihue to borrow a shelter dog for day trip on the island.

Along with helping you pick out an appropriate dog for a day’s field trip, volunteers receive a complete supply kit including an "adopt me" vest, water, towels and treats. And if you fall in love with your new furry friend, the Kauai Humane Society can make the arrangements to help you bring your canine buddy back to the mainland. In fact, an average of two visitors to the island adopt a Kauai Humane Society shelter dog each week.

It’s a win-win. By taking a Kauai Humane Society dog on a field trip in paradise, your help enriches their life. And receiving unconditional love for the day is sure to make you smile.
